curl is an open source tool used to transfer data. The library behind it, libcurl, is one of the world’s most used libraries. curl is extremely flexible and widely-used, from software in cars or modems to web applications and smartphones.
Despite its widespread and critical use, curl is maintained and funded by just a few individuals, including its original developer Daniel Stenberg who publicly addresses the disparity between commercial use and financial support.
Why is this important?
Curl is one of the most widely-used tools around. Its protection and maintenance is critical to everyone who develops or uses software.
What are we funding?
The funding will be used to maintain curl by conducting a bug clean-up. There are currently 122 known bugs, which will be classified and fixed if needed. curl will also address some bugs and add new options in order to enable support for newer versions of the HTTP protocol
